Why We’re Releasing it Directly Now

We explored different distribution paths. Like most independent filmmakers, we tried to navigate the systems that promise access, visibility, and bigger platforms. But at a certain point, I had to make a decision: keep waiting for the “perfect” distribution moment, or release it in a way that actually serves the people who’ve been asking to see it. So we chose to release it directly. This release puts the film in your hands now, lets the people who care most support it directly, and keeps Reel Nation Media independent so we can continue making sincere, mission‑driven stories.

How to Watch on Your TV

You can watch on your phone or computer, and you can also watch on a bigger screen using one of these simple options:

      • AirPlay (iPhone/Mac → Apple TV)
      • Chromecast (phone/laptop → TV)
      • HDMI cable (laptop → TV)
      • Smart TV browser (if supported)

If you run into any trouble, reach out through Reel Nation Media, and we’ll help you get it working.

        About The Film

Sally’s Iron Mustangs is an uplifting 60‑minute documentary following Sally Winchell, a 64‑year‑old bodybuilder and wellness advocate in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, as she trains a team of senior women — “the Iron Mustangs” — to compete in powerlifting at the Lancaster Senior Games.

At one level, it’s a sports story: training plans, nerves, technique, setbacks, and the pressure of competition. But ultimately, this film delves deeper, exploring what it means to age with dignity in a culture that often treats older women as invisible, and what it takes to reclaim strength—not as vanity, but as a fundamental form of agency. It is a testament to mental wellness, the quiet courage it takes to keep showing up, and the transformative power of community, showcasing the kind of sisterhood that makes hard days survivable.

        Who Is Sally?

Sally is the kind of person who can say something blunt, make you laugh, and then turn around and give you the most sincere encouragement you’ve heard all week. She’s direct. She’s warm. She’s persistent. And she cares. But she’s not just a personality — she’s built something real. Sally Winchell is a Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based personal trainer and fitness instructor who founded “Sally’s Iron Mustangs” to bring weightlifting opportunities to older women, most of them in their late 50s, 60s, and 70s. She’s also someone who refuses to accept the story society tells older women: slow down, shrink your life, and fade out. Instead, she’s helped create a culture where seniors train seriously — and show up publicly. At Bright Side Opportunities Center, where she has served as Wellness Director since 2014, the Iron Mustangs trained for competitions like the Lancaster Senior Games, returning from recent Games with medals and “hardware” that reflects the work they’ve put in.

In other words, Sally didn’t just motivate people — she built a space where women can push back against that narrative with something measurable: strength gained over time, confidence rebuilt rep by rep, and friendships formed in the middle of discomfort.

Will it be on Other Streaming Platforms?

Possibly — and we’re staying open to additional distribution opportunities as they become available. For now, the most direct way to watch (and the best way to support) is through our Reel Nation Media On‑Demand release. If/when the film opens on other platforms, we’ll announce it clearly so you can choose what’s easiest.

Sally's Iron Mustangs will be on VOD coming soon!

We hope to release Sally’s Iron Mustangs on streaming platforms (Apple TV, Netflix, Hulu, etc).

            A Satisfying Impact

One of the most moving things about bringing this film to community screenings has been watching how many people leave feeling lighter. Some connect with the humor and playful energy of the group, while others connect with the training and discipline. But again and again, the common feedback is profound, with comments like, “I see my mom in this,” “I didn’t realize how much I needed to hear that I’m not done,” and “I want to bring my friend/sister/aunt to watch this.” That’s the impact I hoped for—a film that doesn’t just entertain, but helps people reconnect with their own possibilities.

            Thank you for your support!

I made this film for my mother — and for anyone who’s ever wondered if it’s too late to change something about their life. It’s not. You start where you are and keep moving forward. That’s the spirit of Sally and the Iron Mustangs.

If you’ve been following this journey, I just want to say: thank you. Your support — your presence at screenings, your donations, your words of encouragement — has helped carry us through. If you’d like to host a screening, support our campaign, or simply watch the film: https://reelnationmedia.com/project/sallys-iron-mustangs/

Thank you for believing in this film. We’re moving forward — and I’m grateful to share it with you.
